English for Academic Purposes (EAP)

Students will learn effective skills and strategies that help them meet language proficiency requirements in Canada.

About the program

In this course, an equal emphasis is placed on essential study skills and English language acquisition. The core-curriculum will focus on academic reading and writing, communication skills and strategies, comprehension and critical thinking and research skills, in accordance with first-year college standards.

Students in the EAP program seeking admissions into Cambrian Diploma programs must successfully complete the English for Academic Purposes (EAP) with a passing mark of 60% or above and a minimum attendance of 75%.

Upon completion of this program, the successful student will have reliably demonstrated English proficiency abilities at CLB 6-7.

All applicants from non-English-speaking countries must demonstrate adequate English language proficiency to be successful at the college level.  

Students seeking admission to EAP must complete the Hanson College language test and obtain a grade between 40%-59% in order to be considered for the program

*Includes $3900 tuition fees, $150 application fee, $90 textbook fee and $275 insurance. (This is only for international students. All programs exclusively enroll international students.)

Students who enroll in a language program which is six months or less in duration or for which tuition is less than $4,000 may not make a claim against the Student Tuition Protection Fund, which is managed by the Private Training Institutions Branch (PTIB) of the Ministry of Advanced Education, Skills & Training. Further, this language program may not have been reviewed or approved by PTIB.
